Né en 1964, Ray Richardson vit et travaille à Woolwich (Londres).
Ray Richardson peint des scènes de la vie de tous les jours basées sur sa propre expérience : son quartier natal du Sud-Est de Londres, ses souvenirs de voyages ou préoccupations personnelles exprimées à travers son double emblématique, un bull-terrier anglais. Mélange d’humour, de drame et de critique sociale, son œuvre relate des instants de vie, de l’enfance à l’age adulte, qui font souvent écho à la Soul musique.
Richardson donne forme à cette matière première en combinant “le travail traditionnel du peintre avec des procédés cinématographiques“ : cadrage rapproché, jeux d’ombre et long formats allongés. Ray Richardson paints scenes of everyday life based on his own experience: his native neighborhood in South East London, his memories of travels or personal concerns expressed through his emblematic double, an English bull terrier. A mixture of humor, drama and social criticism, his work relates moments of life, from childhood to adulthood, which often echo Soul music. Richardson gives shape to this raw material by combining “the traditional work of the painter with cinematographic processes“: close framing, play of shadows and long elongated formats. Nicknamed the « Martin Scorsese of figurative painting », his painted snapshots immortalize an urban pantomime.
